You can find many Batiks around the world but the origin is in Indonesia. After that it spread all over the world. Making Batik is bit hard work. Every tiny thing is doing by hands. No machines at all. The batik process is long. Therefore it takes little time to complete a single piece of batik.

If you want to make five pieces of batiks you have to draw five pieces separately. You have wax them separately. You have to colour them separately and finally you have to boil them separately. Each piece of batiks needs to be done separately. You have to do each piece of batik from the beginning to the end separately. So it takes more time. More pieces means more time. It is not like printing. When it comes to printing of cause you only have to make one original design and after that you can print even thousand of them in few days. But batik is not like that.
You can make many things in Batik. Batik wall hangings, table clothes, cushion covers, bed covers, shirts, skirts, pants, saris, scarves, bags and anything you want. The main material is 100% cotton but people use silk, rayon, etc; to create their batiks. Most of the batik makers mainly use chemical dyes which are very fast. They use Para pin wax and bee wax with little bit of Rosin for the procedure of waxing.
You can find good quality batiks in Sri Lanka also. There are enough talented batik artists in the Island. You can see some of their creations in this page.
